JAMMU, NOVEMBER 28: An awareness workshop under the Jute Mark India Scheme was held here today. The programme was organised by the Textiles Committee, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India in association with the National Jute Board.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Ansuya Jamwal was the Chief Guest.
Deputy Director National Jute Board BN Bhansali delivered the opening address and gave an overview of the National Jute Board’s functioning. He briefed the participants about the Board’s initiatives for jute farming, production, processing, technology upgradation and capacity building. He also explained that the schemes support artisans and manufacturers through training, supply chain facilitation and subsidies for raw materials, machinery, marketing and participation in national and international exhibitions.

He encouraged stakeholders to organise more training and awareness programmes in the region and advised participants to visit the official National Jute Board and Jute Mark India websites for detailed information on schemes, registration and support mechanisms.

In her address, ADC, Ansuya Jamwal appreciated the programme and said that the workshop provided an effective platform to spread awareness about Government of India’s initiatives in the jute sector. “It is encouraging to see the National Jute Board providing handholding and facilitation to entrepreneurs and prospective jute processing and trading units,” she added. She also assured full support from the district administration for future awareness programmes and initiatives aimed at promoting jute cultivation, processing and enterprise development in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Textiles Committee Kartikay Dhanda highlighted that the Jute Mark India scheme has been launched to give a unique collective identity and authenticity to jute and jute diversified products. He said that the Jute Mark serves as an assurance of quality and origin, helping buyers identify genuine jute products and promoting trust in jute-based goods both in domestic and global markets.

The Secretary informed that Jammu has hosted one of the first such workshops in the country and similar events are planned across India to boost awareness and participation under the scheme. He also informed that the Jute Mark label is currently available free of cost and any eligible manufacturer or business adhering to the quality and content standards prescribed by the National Jute Board can register to use the mark on their products.

Director Handloom & Handicraft, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, Mohammad Nazeer Sheikh, extended full support from the Handicrafts & Handloom Department for all efforts aimed at promoting jute products, skill development and trade opportunities in the Union Territory.

Managing Director, Jammu & Kashmir Handloom & Handicraft Corporation, Atul Sharma, stressed upon the need to establish jute-based production units on ground and to strengthen the training and capacity building of artisans and Self Help Groups engaged in jute crafts and manufacturing.

The workshop was attended by artisans, entrepreneurs, SHGs besides other participants. The programme aimed to enhance awareness about the Jute Mark India Scheme, promote registration from the Jammu and Kashmir region and strengthen the branding of Indian jute products in domestic and international markets.
