Unified Call for Dignity & Healing: GMC Srinagar marks World Leprosy Day

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 30: The Postgraduate Department of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, in collaboration with the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists & Leprologists (IADVL) J&K branch organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program to mark World Leprosy Day.

The event, themed ‘Unified Call for Dignity & Healing’, aimed to raise awareness, update medical professionals on recent advancements in leprosy management, and reinforce the commitment to eliminating the disease.
The theme emphasizes the importance of a unified approach to address leprosy, promote dignity, and ensure healing of affected persons.

The CME was attended by dermatologists, medical faculty, postgraduate students, and healthcare professionals.
During the event, renowned experts delivered insightful lectures on epidemiology, early diagnosis, leprosy reactions, treatment modalities, and stigma associated with leprosy.

Principal GMC Srinagar, Prof. Dr. Iffat Hassan while speaking in the CME, reaffirmed the GMC Srinagar’s commitment to leprosy control initiatives and appreciated the efforts of the Dermatology Department in organizing the CME.

She urged everyone to reaffirm commitment to leprosy control and asked for working together to promote awareness, education, and community engagement. She emphasized to strive to provide compassionate and patient-centered care to those affected by leprosy.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Yasmeen Jabeen, Head of the Department of Dermatology & President IADVL J&K, emphasized the importance of continued education and awareness in eradicating leprosy.

Other prominent speakers included Dr Shagufta Rather, secretary IADVL J&K, Prof Seema Qayoom HOD SKIMS medical college, Prof Sheikh Manzoor & Prof Syed Mubashir, both former presidents of IADVL J&K, Dr Anjum Afshan state leprosy officer, faculty from Dermatology & Microbiology GMC, Sgr.

The event concluded with an interactive session, reinforcing the importance of early intervention and patient-centered care.
