Srinagar: The work of resettling displaced Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley is going on in full swing.
As per the claim of the authorities, colonies for their residence are under construction. The construction of transit residences at the cost of Rs 23 crore in Alapura area of Shopian district has entered the final stages.
A total of 192 Kashmiri Pandit families will be accommodated in this transit camp. According to officials, 32 flats have been fully completed so far while the remaining flats are undergoing final stages.
The construction of transit residences for the Pandit employees at Alapura Kigam Shopian was started in 2020. Officials of the Public Works Department claimed that all the flats would be completed next year.
It should be noted that in November 2020, the administration of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor announced the construction of 1,680 transit residential houses in six districts of the valley for the Kashmiri migrant Pandit employees.
According to the order of the Department of Disaster Management, Relief and Reconstruction, the Administrative Council headed by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha has constructed 1,680 residences in Marhama Anantnag Lar, Ganderbal Muthpura, Baramulla, Udan Bandipora, Kolingam Kupwara and Alapura Kigam Shopian in the valley.
In May this year, a Kashmiri Pandit Rahul Bhat, who was working under the PM package, was shot dead by militants in Chadoora area of Budgam district. Later, all government employees residing in Kashmir refused to join duty and demanded that Kashmiri Pandits employees be posted outside Kashmir. The administration refused to accede to the demands of the Kashmiri Pandits and accelerated the ongoing work on the transit accommodation.
