World Water Day-2025’ celebrated at B’la, Gbl, Kul, Kup & B’pora

SRINAGAR, MARCH 22: On the eve of ‘World Water Day’ (WWD) commemorated every year on March 22nd, a series of programmes were organized today across the all the districts of Kashmir by the respective district administrations to raise awareness on the value of freshwater and the necessity of its sustainability management techniques.

This year the day was observed with the theme ‘Glacier Preservation’, Glaciers are critical to life, their melt-water is essential for drinking water, agriculture, industry, clean energy production and healthy ecosystems.

At Baramulla, Jal Shakti Department Baramulla today celebrated World Water Day with great enthusiasm and a commitment to raising awareness about the importance of water conservation.

The event, held at Dak Bunglow Baramulla was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa and was attended by the Joint Director Planning, Baramulla, Javaid Ahmad; Executive Engineer PHE division Baramulla, Aijaz Ahmad, other government officials, emphasizing the critical role of water in sustaining life and the urgent need to protect this precious resource.

 

The celebration featured a series of activities aimed at educating the public about sustainable water management practices.
Speaking during the event, the DC urged everyone to take collective responsibility for conserving water and stressed the need for innovative solutions and community participation to ensure water security for future generations.

Meanwhile, DC administered the ‘Pledge to Save Water,’ to all the participants, underscoring the importance of adopting water-saving practices in daily life.

The event also showcased innovative water conservation projects implemented by the Jal Shakti Department in the region, including rainwater harvesting systems, watershed management initiatives, and community-driven water-saving programs.

At Ganderbal, district administration Ganderbal today observed World Water Day with a grand celebration aimed at raising awareness about water conservation and sustainable usage.

The event was held across district Ganderbal in all Panchayats by joint collaboration of Jal Shakti (PHE) department and Rural Development Department.

Major event was held in the Conference Hall of Mini Secretariat, witnessing the participation of district Officers and officials all united by the cause of protecting this vital resource.

Deputy Commissioner (DC), Jatin Kishore led the event and administered pledge among the participants, reaffirming their commitment to conserve and to use water wisely. The event was attended by National Water supply , Sanitation and Hygiene expert, Devendra Singh Bajwa as special guest.

Addressing the gathering, the DC emphasized on the theme of the day, ‘Glacier preservation’ and laid emphasis on vital role of officers and officials in water conservation to combat climate change and ensuring water security for future generations.

The District Administration also announced future initiatives to promote water conservation, urging citizens to actively participate in safeguarding water resources.

The celebration concluded with a pledge by all attendees to take concrete steps towards sustainable water use, making World Water Day a meaningful occasion for the people of Ganderbal.

At Kulgam, a series of events centered on this year’s theme ‘Glacier Preservation’ were held to celebrate ‘World Water Day’ in Kulgam. These events aimed to raise awareness about the crucial role of glaciers in sustaining freshwater resources and the urgent need for their conservation.

The main function, held in the conference hall of the mini-secretariat Kulgam was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan.

Participants were administered a pledge by the Deputy Commissioner, committing to conserving water, using it judiciously, and inspiring others to do the same.

The pledge emphasized the collective responsibility of individuals and communities in ensuring a sustainable water future.

The event featured awareness sessions and discussions on the impact of climate change on glaciers.
Experts highlighted the importance of responsible water use and conservation efforts.

The events concluded with an appeal to all citizens to value and protect water, ensuring that future generations continue to benefit from this precious natural resource.

ACD, Syed Naseer Ahmad; ACP Nazia Hassan; ACR, Mushtaq Ahmad; Executive Engineers from Jal Shakti, CEO and other officers and officials attended the event.

At Kupwara, In connection with the celebration of World Water Day, the District Administration Kupwara today organized Jal Shapath (Water Pledge) ceremonies across the district to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation.

The main function was held at D.C Office Kupwara which was led by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan who administered the Water Pledge to the participants consisting of a large number of officers and employees.

On the occasion, DC spoke and highlighted the importance of water conservation and sustainable use of water resources in the district. She emphasized for cleaning of water bodies and keeping surroundings neat and clean to sustain the water resources for future generations.

Meanwhile, water pledge ceremonies were held in all schools, colleges and government offices of district Kupwara during which pledges were administered to ensure judicious use of water. The participants were impressed upon to motivate family, friends and neighbours to use water wisely and not waste it.

At Bandipora, the District Administration Bandipora today observed World Water Day emphasizing the importance of water conservation and sustainable management of water resources.

 

Deputy Commissioner (DC), Manzoor Ahmad Qadri led the observance by administering the ‘Jal Shapath’ at the Mini Secretariat Bandipora, emphasizing the collective commitment to water conservation.

In line with this initiative, the ‘Jal Shapath’ was also administered in all government offices across the district, ensuring widespread participation of officials and employees in the water conservation oath.

Speaking on the occasion, DC emphasized the urgent need for water conservation and urged the participants to adopt responsible water usage practices. He said that it is our collective responsibility to conserve the water for the future generations.

Qadri highlighted the judicious use of water, along with active conservation efforts to prevent scarcity and ensure equitable access of water for all.

Among others, the oath ceremony was attended by ACR, Shabir Ahmad Wani; ACD, Irfan Bahadur; CPO, Mohammad Maqbool Lone; Executive Engineer Jal Shakti, Mutayib Bashir; District Officers and officials of different departments and other concerned.
