BARAMULLA, JUNE 23: Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Baramulla today kick-started the much-anticipated Inter-Zonal District Level Kabaddi Competition for Under-14 Boys at the premises of BHSS Baramulla, marking another significant step towards promoting grassroots sports and nurturing young talent across the district.
The championship was formally inaugurated by the Principal, Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS) Baramulla, in the presence of District Youth Services & Sports Officer (DYSSO) Baramulla, officials of the department, technical staff, team managers, and participating athletes.
A total of 14 zonal teams from different educational zones of the district are participating in the competition, which is being conducted in a league format, ensuring maximum exposure and competitive opportunities for the budding kabaddi players.
Speaking on the occasion, the Principal BHSS Baramulla appreciated the Department of Youth Services and Sports for organizing such meaningful sporting events. He emphasized that sports play a pivotal role in shaping the character, discipline, leadership qualities, and overall personality development of students. He urged the participants to uphold the spirit of fair play, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Addressing the gathering, the DYSSO Baramulla highlighted the department’s unwavering commitment to providing a vibrant platform for young athletes to showcase their talent and excel in sports. He stated that district-level competitions serve as an important stepping stone for identifying promising players who can represent Baramulla at higher levels of competition. He encouraged the players to utilize these opportunities to enhance their skills, remain physically active, and strive for excellence both on and off the field.
The inaugural day witnessed enthusiastic participation, energetic performances, and competitive encounters among the participating teams, reflecting the growing popularity of kabaddi among school students in the district.
The tournament will continue over the coming days, with teams vying for top honours and the opportunity to earn selection for higher-level competitions.
