POONCH, SEPTEMBER 26: To mark World Environmental Health Day, Education Department Poonch today launched a district wide plantation drive here from DYSP Manjeet Singh Memorial Higher Secondary School (Boys).
The Drive is aimed at planting 50,000 trees in schools across the district by October 2, 2026, giving a meaningful environmental dimension to the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti.
World Environmental Health Day is celebrated annually on September 26 to highlight the vital connection between human well-being and environmental conditions.
Chief Education Officer Javed Iqbal Gulshan inaugurated the drive. Students and staff of the institution planted a variety of ornamental plants within the school premises, formally marking the beginning of a district-wide plantation campaign.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEO said that environmental protection is a collective responsibility and schools have a crucial role in nurturing environmental consciousness among students.
“Our objective is not merely to plant trees but to develop a culture of environmental responsibility among our students. We have set a target of planting around 50,000 plants across schools of the district by October 2, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti. I appeal to all heads of institutions, teachers, students and the community to participate enthusiastically in this campaign and, more importantly, ensure that every plant is properly nurtured and protected,” he said.
