RAMBAN, SEPTEMBER 29: To review road safety measures and undertake effective corrective interventions to prevent road accidents, Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan, who is also Chairman of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) and District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC), today chaired a meeting in his office chamber.
The meeting was attended by SSP Traffic NHW Raja Adil Hamid; ADC Ramban Varunjeet Singh Charak; Additional SSP Mujheeb-ur-Rehman; CPO Dr. Shakeeb Ahmed Rather; ARTO Varun Bhasin; Executive Engineers of PWD and PMGSY and other concerned officers.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned departments to take time-bound remedial measures to prevent road accidents, with special emphasis on implementing road safety recommendations identified by the committee. He asked R&B, PMGSY, NHAI and other concerned agencies to execute all road safety-related works on priority.
Stressing the need for a coordinated approach, the DC called for focused technological, engineering and enforcement interventions to reduce road accidents, particularly along NH-44 and other vulnerable road stretches.
Highlighting the importance of data-driven planning, he emphasised the use of traffic and transport data for targeted safety interventions, strategic deployment of traffic personnel and timely corrective measures at identified accident-prone locations and black spots.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the status of installation of speed guns, crash barriers, rumble strips, milestones and speed-limit signage at identified black spots and other vulnerable locations along NH-44 and other roads of the district. He stressed the need for strict enforcement of traffic regulations and continuous monitoring of vulnerable stretches. The DC directed officers of BRO to maintain their roads and bridges regularly.
The SSP Traffic NHW highlighted various road safety concerns and enforcement-related issues along NH-44 and suggested necessary measures for improving traffic management and enhancing commuter safety.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the Road Accident Victim Fund. The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for swift disposal of cases and timely assistance to eligible accident victims, directing the concerned officers to ensure that no case remains pending unnecessarily.
The DC directed all stakeholders to work in close coordination and adopt a proactive and preventive approach towards road safety, ensuring prompt implementation of corrective measures to make roads safer for commuters and pedestrians across District Ramban.
