SAMBA, SEPTEMBER 29: Deputy Commissioner Samba, Ayushi Sudan, chaired a district-level meeting of the NCORD (Narco Coordination Centre) to review the status of narcotics-related cases and assess the implementation status of the measures being undertaken for prevention, enforcement, treatment and rehabilitation.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner took stock of cases under the NDPS Act, including convictions, property attachments, drug seizures and punitive action against absconders/fugitives. She directed the concerned agencies to strengthen follow-up mechanisms and ensure timely action in all pending cases.
The meeting laid special focus on health-related interventions, particularly combating diversion of pharmaceutical drugs, seizure of illicit substances and destruction of illicit drug cultivation. The DC stressed the need for coordinated action by enforcement agencies, health authorities and other stakeholders to address both the supply and demand sides of the drug menace.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed police action and enforcement measures and directed the conduct of fortnightly special drives for narcotics control thereby asserting sustained and result-oriented field-level action.
The functioning of Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs) was also reviewed. The meeting was informed that 67 patients were treated during the month, while regular monitoring of IPD (in-patient department) facilities was also discussed to ensure effective treatment, care and rehabilitation of persons affected by substance abuse.
The DC emphasized the importance of strengthening community participation in combating drug abuse. She called for encouraging Mahila Nigrani Samitis and promoting safe spaces at the grassroots level to facilitate awareness, early intervention and community-based action against substance abuse.
She further directed the concerned departments to undertake joint inspections in factory areas, including SIDCO, to identify and prevent any activities linked to the misuse or illegal diversion of pharmaceutical drugs and other narcotic substances.
Moreover, Ayushi Sudan stressed the importance of effective monitoring, accountability, inter-departmental coordination and timely disposal of cases to make the overall mechanism more responsive and effective.
The concerned officers apprised the Deputy Commissioner of the progress achieved, enforcement action taken, treatment-related interventions and issues requiring further attention. The DC directed all stakeholders to maintain close coordination and ensure sustained efforts towards making Samba a drug-free district.
