Deputy Commissioner reviews functioning of Social Welfare Department in Jammu

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 20: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas today chaired a meeting to review the functioning of the Social Welfare Department and the implementation of various welfare schemes in the district.

Programme Officer, Integrated Child Development Services, Pankaj Anand, gave a detailed presentation on the working of the department. The DC was briefed about the implementation of key schemes including Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Ladli Beti Scheme, Mission Poshan and the functioning of Anganwadi Centres.

Dr. Minhas issued directions for immediate interventions to further strengthen service delivery under these schemes. He stressed the need to improve the functioning of Anganwadis and suggested measures for better monitoring and outreach.

District Social Welfare Officer, Nawaz Sharif, presented the progress under Integrated Social Security Schemes and apprised about other flagship activities of the department, such as the provision of prosthetic aids, State Marriage Assistance Scheme, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the officers to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is left out of the coverage of the schemes.

Functioning of various statutory bodies including the Juvenile Justice Board, as well as interventions for children in street situations, was also reviewed.

The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer, Ajaypal Singh, besides Tehsil Social Welfare Officers and Child Development Project Officers.
