KISHTWAR, JUNE 03: Ghulam Mohammad, a tribal farmer from village Pahalgwara -Kishtwar has achieved remarkable success in trout farming.
Taking advantage of the support mechanism under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) with due help from the Fisheries Department, Ghulam Mohammad established a Trout Raceway unit. He got the idea of the project at a departmental awareness program held under “Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan.”
“I applied for assistance under HADP and got the unit sanctioned with a 60% subsidy as provided to ST Category beneficiaries” he shared. The unit, costing ₹5.50 lakh, has not only empowered Ghulam Mohammad but also provided employment to 2 other people.
Ghulam expects to produce 1000 Kg saleable fish in the first crop year, which is bound to boost his economic prospects. He plans to establish more such units in the future, leveraging his land and water resources.
He thanked the Fisheries Department Kishtwar for creating a lucrative income and employment opportunity for people like him.
