JAMMU, APRIL 30: As part of its ongoing campaign to combat drug abuse and promote healthy lifestyles among youth, the District Administration Jammu organised an anti-drug Awareness Programme at Government MAM College. The event, part of a series of endeavours, aimed at sensitising students about the dangers of substance abuse. A large number of students, faculty and officials attended the event.

Sub Divisional Magistrate Jammu South Manu Hansa was the chief guest. In his address, the SDM emphasised the need for collective public action to curb the growing threat of drug abuse among the younger generation. He educated students about the harmful effects of drugs on physical health, mental well-being and career prospects, stressing how substance abuse can derail futures and break families.

He urged students to stay alert and adopt positive habits that promote both mental and physical wellness. “Education and awareness are our strongest tools in building a drug-free society,” he remarked.
The event was coordinated by Block Development Officer Satwari Sandeep Gupta and Tehsildar Bahu Raju Samyal.

Key resource persons, including Dr. Arti Sharma and Lecturer Amar Singh, delivered impactful sessions highlighting the adverse effects of drug addiction on individuals and society. They addressed the psychological, physical and social repercussions of drug use and offered practical strategies for resisting peer pressure and managing stress through healthy alternatives.

The Students were actively engaged in the interactive sessions. The college administration was encouraged to conduct regular counselling and awareness drives to create a supportive environment for students.
