BANDIPORA, JULY 28: District Hospital Bandipora on Monday observed ‘World Hepatitis Day’ with a comprehensive awareness programme, drawing attention to the prevention, early diagnosis, and management of viral Hepatitis, particularly types B and C.

The event aimed to mobilize public action and reaffirm healthcare commitment to eradicating the disease.
The programme was formally inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, who stressed the need for proactive healthcare measures to combat the ‘silent epidemic.’

On the occasion, DC emphasized that we must move from awareness to action. “Testing and timely treatment are vital. Our administration is committed to strengthening healthcare delivery and ensuring outreach at the grassroots,” he said.

Chief Medical Officer Bandipora, Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad, emphasized preventive strategies. “Scaling up screening, vaccination, and education is essential. Our health workers are at the forefront, and their efforts must be supported to halt the spread of hepatitis,” he said.

The event featured a series of expert-led sessions, highlighting the significance of the day and guiding its flow.
District Programme Manager (NHM), delivered an overview of World Hepatitis Day and the National Health Mission’s response. On the occasion he said that this year’s theme ‘Hepatitis Can’t Wait’ reflects the urgency of action. He stressed that NHM is implementing screening and treatment services through the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme.

Epidemiologist, presented global statistics and trends, revealing that over 325 million people worldwide are living with Hepatitis B or C, often without symptoms.

Medical Officer provided an in-depth presentation on the epidemiology, prevention, and treatment of Hepatitis B and C, emphasizing safe healthcare practices, vaccination, and accessible treatment.

Concluding the event, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Bandipora reiterated the hospital’s dedication to hepatitis control and public health education. “Testing is free, treatment is available, now we need public participation. Let us all be ambassadors of hepatitis prevention,” he said.

The programme ended with a collective call to action, reinforcing the district’s commitment to achieving the World Health Organization’s goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.
