ANANTNAG, SEPTEMBER 25: A Five-Day Training Programme on Natural Farming concluded today at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)-Anantnag, under the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) for Krishi Sakhis and BRC members identified by the Department of Agriculture, Anantnag.
The valedictory function was attended by Chief Agriculture Officer, Anantnag, Shahnawaz Ahmad Shah, along with other officers and officials of the Department of Agriculture.
The programme was aimed at building the technical capacity of frontline community resource persons and enabling them to effectively disseminate the principles and practices of natural farming among farming communities.
During the five-day programme, scientists of KVK-Anantnag delivered technical lectures covering various aspects of natural farming, including soil health management, on-farm preparation and use of natural farming inputs, crop management practices and the role of natural farming in promoting sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture. Practical demonstrations were also conducted to provide hands-on exposure to the participants.
As part of the programme, an exposure visit to the Shalimar Campus of SKUAST-Kashmir was also organized, providing the participants an opportunity to observe relevant technologies and practices and interact with experts.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ishtiyaq A. Khan, Head, KVK-Anantnag, highlighted the significance of natural farming in reducing dependence on external inputs, improving soil health and promoting environmentally sustainable agricultural production. He emphasized that the growing emphasis on natural and regenerative agriculture reflects a broader global shift towards sustainable farming systems and noted India’s emerging leadership in promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Chief Agriculture Officer, Anantnag, Shahnawaz Ahmad Shah, emphasized the need for effective implementation of the Natural Farming programme at the grassroots level. He stressed that the knowledge and skills acquired during the training should be translated into field-level action and disseminated among farmers in letter and spirit for wider adoption of natural farming practices.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates and essential equipment among the participants, marking the successful completion of the training.
The training programme was coordinated by Dr. Shabeer Ahmad Ganie, Scientist, KVK-Anantnag and Nodal Officer, Natural Farming, who facilitated the technical sessions and practical components of the programme.
