Govt delaying elections as BJP lacks courage to face voters: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, Oct 31 (KNO): The Lok Sabha elections may be five to six months away, but political parties have begun to mobilise their cadres for Lok Sabha polls in Baramulla Lok Sabha seat, which is likely to witness a direct contest between National Conference (NC) and Peoples Conference (PC).

National Conference president Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that they will not repeat incumbent member parliament Muhammad Akbar Lone due to his ailing health. “It is not possible that he would fight the election.

We will field a new candidate from Baramulla-Kupwara Lok Sabha seat,” Omar told reporters in Karnah Kupwara, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)

The last Lok Sabha polls also saw a direct flight between NC and PC on the seat. In the Lok Sabha election, PDP finished a distant fourth on the seat.

According to observers, the main contest would be between NC and PC, considered traditional arch-rivals in the region.

The segment is now spread over 18 Assembly segments – six seats of Kupwara, three seats of Bandipora, seven seats of Baramulla and two seats of Budgam district.

It is pertinent to mention that NC had won the Lok Sabha seat in 2019—(KNO)
