UDHAMPUR, APRIL 25: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa today chaired a meeting of the District level Committee under Narco Coordination Centre to review and reinforce measures against illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
The meeting was attended by SSP Amrit Pal Singh; Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh; Additional SP Sandeep Bhat, along with senior officers from the line departments.
The meeting conducted a comprehensive review covering key aspects of drug prevention and control. These included identification and rehabilitation of drug addicts, progress on PIT-NDPS cases, action against erring pharmacies, installation of CCTV cameras, measures to curb illicit crop cultivation, inspection of de-addiction centres, block-wise data on drug abusers, identification of hotspots, surveillance of educational institutions, IEC campaigns, mass awareness programmes, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Nasha Mukti Panchayats and cases registered under the NDPS Act.
The DC emphasized the need for robust inter-departmental coordination to effectively track and apprehend individuals involved in drug trafficking, identify abuse-prone areas and promote community-based rehabilitation and awareness initiatives.
He directed all departments to intensify counselling services and strengthen IEC activities to sensitise the public about the harmful effects of drug abuse. The Chief Education Officer and college heads were also instructed to organise regular awareness programmes in their respective institutions.
Stressing the importance of strict enforcement, the Deputy Commissioner called for decisive action to seize illicit substances and safeguard the youth from falling prey to drug addiction. He further instructed all concerned departments to enhance overall performance and ensure timely submission of reports.
