Others were just busy with the interplay of words, but it turned out to be Prime Minister Narendra Modi who made the shifting of eight Cheetahs possible from Namibia to Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno-Palpur National Park. They have been brought to India to restore the ecological link which was broken after the Indian Cheetah faced extinction and the same has been made possible by the PM who was himself present—and even clicked the picture with the camera he was carrying—when the Cheetahs were released into an enclosure which has been specially designed for them.

The event of releasing cousins of Indian Cheetah from a different continent to restore the broken link cannot be brushed off as something ordinary, rather, it is a wild wonder which has occurred in India after nearly 70 years since the last Indian Cheetah disappeared from the Indian ecological setup, leaving India with nothing to showcase and everything to ponder over what could be done ahead. Since then, while initially, there was no headway, then, under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government led by Manmohan Singh the ‘Project Cheetah’ was approved in 2008-09; some steps were taken and the project was initiated. As what used to be the order of the day, matters faced delay, and so did the project under which the Cheetahs were to be brought to India for a bigger purpose.

After several years, the world’s first inter-continental large carnivore translocation project became the reality under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi whose aim has always remained the restoration of important and key legacies of the country. The Indian Cheetahs indeed represented the country’s rich ecological bank, but with their extinction, questions were raised over the suitability of Indian ecology and the dangers posed by various other factors. But things have changed now: the PM has his sleeves up and initiated the first step toward the restoration and the preservation of the sustainability of the Cheetahs. The restoration of the broken link is no matter going to take years as these Cheetahs will be now allowed to grow, roam around the space, and reproduce and it is going to be their procreation that will ultimately proceed towards bringing back that lost link, regarding which, the PM has already said that there is a need for showing patience.

The moment that the county witnessed will go down in history as India’s willingness and determination to restore and protect its assets—be that in any shape—to ensure that it gets to keep what belongs to it. The exciting wild wonder event also underlines what PM believes in is nothing but deliverance and execution, not just the hollow promises wrapped in never-to-be-executed projects. The PM has succeeded in leaving behind a great legacy for which he will be remembered for decades more to come.
