RAMBAN, MAY 15: Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan today chaired a review meeting to assess the implementation of the directions of the Supreme Court of India regarding Solid Waste Management Rules in the district.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Development Sheraz Ahmed; Chief Planning Officer Dr. Shakeeb Ahmed Rather; Executive Engineer REW; Chief Executive Officer Municipal Council Ramban; Executive Officers of Municipal Committees Batote and Banihal; BDOs, Officer from Pollution Control Board and other concerned.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner held a detailed review of measures being undertaken for effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules across the district. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts among all stakeholder departments to ensure scientific waste disposal, improved sanitation standards and strict adherence to environmental norms.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to intensify monitoring and take concrete steps for strengthening waste collection, segregation and disposal mechanisms at the municipal and rural levels. He emphasized the need to create greater public awareness regarding cleanliness and proper waste management practices.
The Deputy Commissioner further directed the concerned officers to operationalise Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) and plastic waste management units at the earliest. The Executive Engineer JPDCL and engineers of the Jal Shakti Department were instructed to ensure power and water supply connections to these facilities at Banihal, Ramsoo, Batote and Gundi Dharam.
He also directed the concerned departments to ensure virtual inspection of dumping sites for effective monitoring and compliance.
The Deputy Commissioner further instructed officers of Municipal Committees and Block Development Offices to ensure collection of user charges from residents for providing quality sanitation and waste management services.
He reiterated the importance of inter-departmental coordination and called upon all departments to work with added commitment to achieve tangible results on the ground.
