DLSA Budgam conducts Legal Awareness Programme under JAGRITI Scheme 2025 at GHS Watakuloo

BUDGAM, JUNE 19: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam, in collaboration with Udaan Relief and Welfare Foundation Budgam, today organized a legal awareness programme on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act at Government High School (GHS) Watakuloo, Chadoora.

The programme was conducted under the leadership of Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Chief Justice (Acting) of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority. It was organised under the directions of Shazia Tabassum, Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, and O.P. Bhagat, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Budgam. The awareness programme was successfully organised and conducted under the supervision of Tabassum Qadir Parray, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Budgam.

The programme was attended by members of the civil society, senior citizens, representatives from the Revenue Department, Police, Army, students, and local residents.

On the occasion, Advocate Nazeer Ahmad, Deputy LADC Budgam, highlighted the rights of senior citizens under the law and emphasized the legal remedies available for their protection, maintenance, dignity, and welfare.
Advocate Yaweer Ali, Assistant LADC Budgam, also addressed the gathering and explained the objectives and important provisions of the Act.

The Headmaster of Government High School Watakuloo spoke about the importance of respecting and caring for senior citizens in society. He appreciated the efforts of DLSA Budgam and its partner organizations in spreading legal awareness at the grassroots level.

The speakers stressed the need for collective responsibility towards the elderly and encouraged the public to make use of legal aid services available through DLSA Budgam.

The programme received an overwhelming response from the participants. Members of the public, senior citizens, and representatives of various departments highly appreciated the initiative of DLSA Budgam and praised the organizers for conducting a meaningful and informative awareness programme in the area.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of senior citizens.
