UDHAMPUR, JUNE 25: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa today chaired a meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre to review the status of illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and strengthen measures to curb drug abuse across the district.
A comprehensive review was conducted on key aspects of drug prevention and control, including identification and rehabilitation of drug addicts, inspection of de-addiction centres, block-wise details of drug abusers, surveillance of educational institutions, action against erring pharmacies, measures to curb illicit narcotic crop cultivation, identification of drug abuse hotspots, implementation of IEC campaigns, mass awareness programmes, activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Nasha Mukti Panchayats, and cases registered under the NDPS Act.
The Deputy Commissioner directed all departments concerned to intensify counselling services, enhance Information, Education and Communication activities to sensitise the public and strengthen inter-departmental coordination to track individuals involved in drug trafficking and identify vulnerable areas. Stressing strict enforcement, the DC called for decisive action against drug peddlers, urged enforcement agencies to intensify seizure operations and dismantle trafficking networks, and instructed all departments to improve overall performance and ensure timely submission of reports for effective monitoring.
