DLSA Srinagar sensitizes students on pivotal legal & social issues at GGHSS Chanapora

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 05: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, organized a comprehensive legal awareness programme at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) Chanapora, Srinagar.

This impactful initiative was aimed at sensitizing students about pivotal legal and social issues, particularly focusing on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Domestic Violence (DV) Act, and the availability of Free Legal Aid.

The programme was held under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arief, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and conducted under the close supervision of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge and Secretary, DLSA Srinagar.

Addressing the gathering, Panel Lawyer, DLSA Srinagar, delivered an insightful talk on the significance and legal provisions of the POCSO Act. Her address focused on the urgent need for awareness and timely reporting in cases involving child abuse. She emphasized the protective framework offered by the Act and the legal recourse available to victims and their guardians.

Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC), DLSA Srinagar, also spoke during the session and shed light on the Domestic Violence Act, highlighting the various forms of abuse and the rights of women under the law. She also explained the structure and accessibility of Free Legal Aid services provided under the Legal Services Authorities Act, encouraging students to spread awareness in their communities.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty, fostering a constructive dialogue on rights, protection, and legal support.

DLSA Srinagar reaffirmed its commitment to promoting legal literacy among the youth, aiming to build a more aware and empowered society.
