JAMMU, JANUARY 23: In the run-up to Republic Day, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today conducted a city-wide cleanliness drive-cum-awareness campaign focusing on hospitals, health institutions, and their surrounding areas. The initiative aimed to enhance hygiene and promote public awareness about waste management.

The main event took place at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, where students, staff, and local residents actively participated. The program featured a detailed demonstration on waste segregation, showcasing the correct use of different coloured bins for various types of waste.

This was followed by a quiz competition on cleanliness and waste management, with winners receiving rewards as an encouragement for their efforts.

Adding a green touch to the event, a plantation drive was also conducted, led by prominent participants including the Medical Superintendent of GMC&H, the Head of the Department of Community Medicines, Dr. Vinod Sharma and the Joint Commissioner of Health and Sanitation, JMC, as they stressed on the importance of collective efforts toward sustainable cleanliness.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Abdul Star, Joint Commissioner (H&S) said that today’s initiative was not just a symbolic event but a call for continuous efforts at both individual and community levels.

“Waste is a resource,” Joint Commissioner (H&S) highlighted, “and if managed appropriately, it can help achieve the goal of wealth from waste.”

The campaign also reinforced the importance of taking cleanliness practices into homes and neighbourhoods.
By maintaining proper waste segregation and disposal at the household level, citizens can contribute significantly to the national cleanliness mission. The event echoed the vision of the Prime Minister to realize the dream of a Swachh Bharat.

Participants expressed enthusiasm and pledged to carry forward the message of cleanliness, ensuring that the city remains clean and healthy for its residents.
