BARAMULLA, JUNE 16: A two month-long Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination drive under the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) was officially launched today in Baramulla.
The initiative was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, at the District Veterinary Office Complex.
On the occasion, DC handed over vaccination kits to the field staff and flagged-off a fleet of 15 bikes equipped with vaccine kits to ensure comprehensive coverage of remote and far-flung areas of the district.
The drive aims to vaccinate cloven-footed animals such as cattle and buffaloes to protect livestock from FMD and boost rural livelihoods dependent on animal husbandry.
The event was held in the presence of the District Animal Husbandry Officer and other officials from the Animal Husbandry Department.
Following the flag-off ceremony, DC also inspected the infrastructure and facilities available at the District Veterinary Hospital, emphasizing the need for quality veterinary services and efficient delivery of animal healthcare in rural areas.
FMD vaccination drive will be carried out in mission mode on a free-of-cost basis, as part of the Government of India’s commitment to eradicate livestock diseases and enhance animal productivity.
