JAMMU, NOVEMBER 14: Social Welfare Department conducted an anti-beggary drive in Jammu under Mission Vatsalya today rescuing children from street situations and child labour. The drive was carried out in the Narwal, Bhatindi and Wave Mall areas, under the directions of Commissioner Secretary to the Government, Social Welfare Department, Sheetal Nanda and under the guidance of District Magistrate Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya.

District Child Protection Officer, Mamta Rajput, led the drive, which involved participation from various departments, including the Police, Health, Labour and Education departments, as well as officials from the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and Child Helpline.

During the drive, the team rescued 6 children engaged in child labour. The Labour Officer issued on-the-spot notices to the employers and necessary action will be taken against the violators.

Mamta Rajput emphasised the department’s commitment to addressing issues of child begging and street situations. She revealed that 108 children have been rescued this financial year, 78 of whom have been enrolled in schools and 63 children have been issued Aadhaar cards.

The rescued children will be placed before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for rehabilitation and further care. Similar drives will be undertaken for the next two days in other hotspot areas.
