UDHAMPUR, MAY 15: District Administration Udhampur, under the aegis of the Department of Social Welfare, organized Awareness-cum-distribution camp under the flagship Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan here at Village Magoite.
More than 200 individuals, including students, teachers, local residents and Sankalp Hub staff attended the event.
The programme aimed to spread awareness about educational opportunities, scholarship schemes, women empowerment initiatives and the harmful effects of drug abuse, while encouraging youth to build a healthy and progressive society.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa and under the overall supervision of District Social Welfare Officer Kanika Gupta. Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Board of Technical Education Suket Gupta was the chief guest. Among other present included Deputy Registrar Reeta.
Addressing the gathering, Suket Gupta highlighted the scholarship and welfare schemes available for students including Pragati, Saksham, besides Jammu and Kashmir Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (JKBOCW) and Swanth schemes for wards of Construction workers and orphans. He elaborated on the eligibility criteria for diploma and degree courses and informed the participants about the registration process and application procedure.
Deputy Registrar Reeta also briefed the students about the categories eligible to apply for these schemes and the benefits provided under the same. She informed that students securing 35 percent marks after Class 10 are also eligible to pursue the technical education courses and avail themselves of related scholarship schemes.
A highlight of the programme was a cultural song performance by the students of local Government Middle School on the theme of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The Sankalp Hub team of the Department of Social Welfare sensitized the participants to the women-centric schemes being implemented for the empowerment, protection and welfare of women and girls.
The Department of Social Welfare, through Sankalp Hub, distributed school bags, baby kits, awareness pamphlets and refreshments among the beneficiaries and participants under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.
Local residents and social activists appreciated the efforts of the Department of Social Welfare for organizing such informative and impactful programmes.
