JAMMU, JUNE 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) commenced a two-day workshop on the implementation of Holistic Progress Card (HPC) for the Secondary Stage in PM SHRI Schools of Kashmir Division from 23 to 24 June, 2026.

The workshop aims to build the capacity of educators for adopting NEP 2020-aligned competency-based, learner-centric and multidimensional assessment practices at the secondary stage. The participants are being oriented on the philosophy, structure and implementation modalities of the Holistic Progress Card, which seeks to move beyond marks-based evaluation and provide a comprehensive picture of learners’ progress across curricular, co-curricular and socio-emotional domains.

Technical sessions during the workshop will focus on understanding the various components of the HPC, documenting learner achievements, integrating self-assessment, peer assessment, parental and teacher observations and utilizing assessment evidence through strategies for maintaining learner profiles and ensuring meaningful reporting of student progress in accordance with national assessment reforms.

Addressing the inaugural session, the Secretary JKBOSE Gh Hassan Sheikh emphasized the importance of transforming assessment practices in line with NEP 2020 and underscored the need for schools to adopt holistic approaches that recognize the diverse capabilities and potential of every learner. The Secretary said that JKBOSE is committed to implementing NEP 2020 in Jammu & Kashmir, maintaining that the whole assessment system in the Union Territory will witness a complete turnaround within the next two years. He said that the HPC, upon full implementation, will ease students’ examination stress, enabling them to achieve learning targets in a congenial, stress-free environment.

Director School Education Kashmir Naseer Ahmad Wani lauded JKBOSE for taking the lead in implementing assessment reforms envisioned under NEP 2020. He urged PM SHRI schools to emerge as model institutions in adopting learner-centred assessment practices and showcasing best practices for the wider school system.

Delivering the keynote address virtually, Head & CEO, PARAKH, NCERT Prof Indrani Bhaduri highlighted the transformative potential of the HPC as a tool to promote competency-based learning and foster all-round development of learners. She appreciated JKBOSE’s initiative in organizing the workshop and expressed confidence that the implementation of HPC in PM SHRI schools would serve as an important milestone in advancing the objectives of NEP 2020.

Director Academics Dr Parveen Singh in his welcome address stated that the workshop marks an important step towards operationalizing assessment reforms in the educational reforms of Jammu & Kashmir, adding that the rollout of the HPC in the PM SHRI schools is a prelude commitment of JKBOSE in this direction. He expressed confidence that the training would equip educators with the necessary knowledge and skills for effective implementation of the HPC and contribute towards creating a more inclusive, learner-centred and growth-oriented school environment in JKUT.
